This is the 4th time in the year that the Top 30 has been made up of Switch games. Just a few days ago, Falcom released a list of software sold during the year and it was 22 million for the Switch and 3 million for PS4 / 5. Obviously, the PS5 has only been on the market for a year and the PS4 is going to be discontinued soon, but the amount of software sold for Sony consoles is still very low. The Switch, on the other hand, is entering its 5th year and its sales are declining, but I think titles like Splatoon 3 and the Breath of the Wild sequel can boost some sales.
With the small amount of PS5s in Japan, I’m wondering if some developers will hold back certain titles until there is a larger user base. Titles like FFXVI and Elden Ring are likely to sell better in the West than in Japan anyway, but there are plenty of exclusive developers in Japan who are selling fewer games than in previous years.

Honestly, I think Nintendo really deserved it. They were able to cope quickly during the pandemic, changed their business model, added more indie software games to their arsenal, and used their branded nostalgia to attract audiences old and new. Until now, they were also able to time everything correctly.
But about the PS5, it might be possible … because of the Unreal Engine 5.

I’m a little worried that with the new generation of consoles, the Switch will no longer receive the same developer support as in previous years. It’s true that compared to the PS5 and Xbox, the Switch seriously lags behind in terms of hardware, but there have been some impressive ports and companies like Capcom, Konami, and Atlus have made blockbuster games for it. console. I don’t think we’ll see any announcements for the Switch successor next year, especially with the chip shortage, but at least it has to be equal to or a little more powerful than a PS4 or Xbox One for facilitate the development of modern games.

In fact, this is also what worries me. Like honestly, after Switch all I can think of is’ what’s next? Nintendo has found success with its hybrid-designed console but I think right now it’s the software battle now. If Switch could innovate more (I don’t know, handle the 5 engine lol), they could still keep their place as the top console.
@enurtsol
I have to say though, I’m not surprised with the Platinum games listed! But really – Final Fantasy XIV? MDR. Not Platinum !? I mean, how? And really, Back 4 Blood in Gold !? again, How? ‘Or’ What?
PS Sorry guys, really passionate about these things. At some point, you see too many emoticons.

Square treats people who download FF XIV for free better than they treat people who actually pay for the game on Steam. I was immediately put off by the game once I saw that because I had the audacity to pay for the base game, I did not receive a free subscription to play through Heavensward like gamers free are given.
